Pick Your Candidate

Since politics and elections have been such a hot topic lately, I thought it would be fun and possibly thought-provoking to do a little survey.

Following are 11 questions that I’d love everybody to answer. The only stipulation for your candidate is that they must be eligible to be president (at least 35 years old and born in America) – it doesn’t matter if it’s a man or woman, their race, religion, what they currently do for a living, political persuasion, etc.

I’ll be very interested to see if 1)Anybody does the survey and 2) The answers that come.

Have fun! WC

1. If you choose anyone to be the presidential candidate in the 2008 Presidential election, who would it be?

2. Why would you choose that person?

3. What problem(s) do you believe your candidate could solve for the nation?

4. What benefit do you believe your candidate could give to the nation?

5. What three skills does your candidate have that makes them a good leader?

6. What three characteristics does your candidate possess that makes them presidential?

7. What do you most admire about your candidate?

8. Would you volunteer to work for your candidate’s campaign if they ran? If so, what would you do for your candidate to help them win the election?

9. What platform would your candidate run on?

10. What issue would your candidate be most attacked by the press for?

11. If your candidate was elected what do you believe their legacy would be as president?

  1. Oh I don’t think I’ll be doing this one, only because I don’t live in the States, so feel just a little unqualified and uninformed…however I think it’s a great idea!

Oh, that’s too bad. I don’t really think you have to be an American to do this. I was more curious about the who, the what and the why fors. I really hope some people do ‘take’ the survey. I’m very interested to see what the response will be.

  2. I want to play. Really! It’s been on the back burner all day but I just can’t come up with anybody. Whether that says more about the dearth of political talent or my lack of imagination is open to interpretation.

Well J, there is no time limit. If you think of someone, feel free to jump in. See my answers in the comment section.

  3. This is just survey answer from the guys who don’t live in USA and see the things from outer pot. I did answer few question not all.
    1. If you choose anyone to be the presidential candidate in the 2008 Presidential election, who would it be?
    Hillary Clinton
    2. Why would you choose that person?
She is smart and solid; she inspires tremendous loyalty among those who work for her. She is not quite as creative a policy thinker as her husband, but she easily masters difficult issues—her newfound grasp of military matters.
    3. What problem(s) do you believe your candidate could solve for the nation?
    Main things foreign policy

    I cant not in states..:)
    9. What platform would your candidate run on?
    10. What issue would your candidate be most attacked by the press for?
    11. If your candidate was elected what do you believe their legacy would be as president? yes

Eka, I can’t say I’m surprised by your choice. And thanks for playing. I was more curious about who people would choose and why. And I had no requisite that they even be a politician – known or otherwise. I half thought people might suggest their Uncle or the guy on their bowling league. I’m going to do the survey myself and post my answers. LOL – maybe I can still get people to play.

  4. Okay, I’m going to play too if no one minds.

    1. Tom McClintock. (California State Senator)

    2. I would choose him because he is very knowledgeable about how the infrastructure of government works and doesn’t work. He has a tendency toward trying to find rational solutions to existing problems rather than trying to invent new problems to solve.

    3. The problems I think he would solve are a) budget/deficit b) border security c) And I think he would stand up to n. korea, iran as well. It hard to say on that one since he is a local politician and national issues often don’t come into play in that scenario.

    4. I think the benefit the U.S. would derive by having him as president is more secure borders, greatly reduced illegal immigration, less government and thusly more control for us over our individual lives. There is a spirit of Reagan about him – in that he seems to love the country as Reagan did – the shining city on the hill analogy seems to fit here.

    5. the three skills he has are 1) excellent communication skills 2) the ability to negotiate without losing ground on issues that matter 3) educates himself on the issues extensively and so when he speaks of them it is obvious he is very well acquainted with the pros and cons.

    6. The three characteristics are 1) empathy 2) a pride of being an American and America 3) has the ability to consider what is good for all, not just some. the ability to see the bigger picture

    7. What I admire most about him is his quiet certainty. I don’t mean arrogance – more that he will listen and really hear what someone says, consider it and respond without forcing his view nor abandoning it.

    8. I would definitely volunteer for him and would love to be his campaign manager.

    9. I’m not sure what platform he would run on, I would guess that it would involve fiscal responsibility, national security and possibly reduction of government infrastructure. I don’t know what his foreign policy would be like though…that would be a big one.

    10. He would be attacked for being too conservative, having no sympathy for the downtrodden, and being rightwing. The usual stuff the press don’t lke about conservatives.

    11. I don’t know what his legacy would be. It would probably depend largely on foreign policy issues and what was happening with Iraq and terrorism in general. Though I think I could say with some confidence that he would be credited with making the nation, particularly the borders more secure and reducing the deficit.

Well that was harder than I thought. But there you have it.

I think Bob Riley and Tom McClintock are a good start. Anybody else want to jump in?

  5. hahaaaa, here goes…

    1. I would keep George Bush!

    2. Obviously–All of our enemies want him out of office BAD!!!

    3. He would keep ‘tax cuts’ ‘no draft’ the economy running, and stay vigilant on the ‘war on terror’.

    4. He would keep the ‘looney left’ from being in charge!!!

    5. a.He is Totally Aware of what is going on in the world.
b.He is familiar with All the Leaders of the world.
    c. He keeps his ‘cool’ while our own Country ignorantly ‘bashes’ him.

    6. a. He is one of the very few who still possesses Morals, family values and a belief in God.
    b. He actually Knows We Are At WAR!!! …and not afraid to fight back.
    c. He fights for what He knows we have to do, no matter who is against him.

    7. His determination, even in the face of insubordination!

    8. Yes! I would do ANYTHING he would ask of me.

    9. “War on Terror-Keeping America Safe!”

    10. Since Most of our Press support terrorist, everything He tries to do to prevent terroristic disaster!

    11. If the U.S. would actually Support Him, and not tie his hands at everything he tries to do–ie, make our soldiers follow ‘rules of war’ , ask if they can ‘shoot’ the enemy, and be ‘oh so nice’ to prisoners of War—WAR IS HELL—soldiers DIE, (thousands upon thousands have given their lives so that others have a better life) The last thing we need for America is someone who is weak and wants to embrace Terrorism!!!

As far as I’m concerned–George Bush has kept our economy going, people are working and eating, we haven’t fallen into a depresion, things are still good. I think that if America quit ‘whining like beeotches, and gave him the support that office holds—-Things could only get better!!!

I would actually like to know ‘What is Everyone’s Problem With George Bush???’
Maybe that could be U’r next post!

I honestly voted him in—-to keep that Azzhole John Kerry, and his band of LOONEY LEFTS–out of office, but 6 yrs. later, I would definately recast my vote for him! I have 5 children who need a Country to grow up in, and George has kept ours going……….
Screw the debt!! Who do we own Anything to, and if we don’t pay—So What!!!

Thanx 4 the opportunity to get that off my chest!

    8)

SB, you go! Loving the passion! Fantastic. You know I never even thought about GW – but yeah, it’d be great if we could have him back.

As to getting stuff off your chest, feel free any time to speak your mind here. I welcome the enthusiasm.

  6. Damn writerchick, you’re engaged! And starbender, just damn.

Okay, just to do my part to try and kickoff the conversation…

    1) Governor Bob Riley, Alabama.
    2) He hasn’t done anything causing me to pray for his untimely demise.
    3) Perhaps put the country on more solid fiscal footing.
    4) He seems to be honest, as far as it goes. He’s self-made. Poor country boy turned multi-millionaire, and he did it via the small business route. (I think).
    5) He’s empathetic, fair, and tough.
    6) He’s got the demeanor, the hair, and he looks good on a horse.
    7) When he came into office, Alabama was running way in the red. He supported tax increases. Instead of ramming them down our throats, however, it was put to a vote and voted down. (Our state constitution may be the reason for the referndum, I don’t know.) He responded to the will of the people, and began pruning instead of taxing. We have six prison guards and three state troopers, but our taxes didn’t go up.
    8) This is a thought experiment. If it was anymore like work, I’d turn into a pumpkin.
    9) Low taxes (ironically), pro-business, limited government, peace through strength; the regular right-wing stuff.
    10) The regular right-wing stuff.
    11) Hopefully restoring a modicum of integrity to our political process and the federal government.

En lieu or a real conservative or libertarian candidate, we could do worse than Bob, and we probably will.

    Dang J,
You really let her rip. Love it! Bob sounds like a great possibility. YOu know one of the reasons I posted this was because we’re always bitching and moaning about our guys in office so I thought it might be fun to start some noise for viable dark horse candidates. I think you’ve kicked it off beautifully.

  7. I’m sorry…I am a bad American…I don’t do ‘political’…I have never felt knowledgable enough to give a profound, intelligent opinion in a public debate.

Tis okay my sweet. Not all of us are so obsessed. I understand that my psychotic affinity for politics is not shared by one and all. I’ll think of other surveys that don’t involve politics. Any suggestions? Could be fun. 😉

  8. I will check back in on this one at a later date. I have not begun to put any choices for candidates on my dart board, I can say the McCain, Rudy, and a few others that have announced have left me looking at property in the Baja.
Well there is one person now that I think about it,
    1. Newt
    2. Why? My morbid sense of humor I suppose. A Gingrich/Hillary contest seems to me a natural. Republicans Hate Hil and Democrats hate Newt. Both have mass baggage so the mud slinging ought to be fun, I think Newt would do the “OK I have gone over that already” spiel and watching Hillary twisting in the wind would really be fun. The first call would be “you can’t say that about Hilary she is a woman.” To wit I would answer, Oh yeah? Since when.
    3. No President can solve any problems. That simply is not how government works. However if they set and enact the proper agenda they can create a strong business climate and allow us TO KEEP MORE OF OUR MONEY. I think Newt would do a Contract with America 2.0 Thus allowing us to solve our own problems as it should be.
    4. What benefit? See my #3
    5. Skill one….He has the courage of his convictions
Skill two….He understands the words “Smaller Government
Skill three….He communicates his ideas and uses the bully pulpit.
    6. Newt is not Hip, Slick and Cool
    7. He speaks my language
    8. I have worked for candidates in the past and yes I would do the leg work, phone work etc for Newt.
    9. Conservative
    10. His past when he was speaker of the house. I think that is easily overcome. EVERYONE knows about it. Hilary would not lie she would just deny deny deny
    11. Lower taxes for everyone and finally cutting the pork. Newt is a fiscal Conservative,
(Note) I vote on three issues. Security, Taxes and integrity. Any one of three can weight my choice. I do not concern myself with the social issues. I figure if I choose wisely on the integrity issue the social issues will shake out. They never will because government has to have some type of war all the time to exist. I am not talking about Iraq war either.
So there I’ve said it. I like Newt. Phew I feel better now that the secret is out. However that land in the Baja is looking real good right now. With the election of the Minority whip etc that Republicrats just did I see a maintaining of the status-quo. The Republicans do not have the stomach to embrace conservative ideas and principles.
Ooops I’ve said to much. I just bounced in to Wish y’all a Happy Thanksgiving and I’ll talk to ya next week.

    Wow Squawky,
Nice argument on behalf of the Newt. You are right on every point with him I think. I don’t know if the Republicans do have the stomach for real conservatives or not – but I suspect that they may be forced into it from the base. Much as I find Rudy likeable – he makes Dubya look positively strict. McCain is just too bad and too much of a Democrat to get the nod. Especially since he seems to have AlGore disease of ‘it’s my turn-itis’

You never know there could be a movement.

    Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

  9. 1. Rudy Giuliani
    2. He cleaned up New York. As screwed up as New York was, the national mess should be a snap.
    3. Someone to stop the communist Pelosi/Hillary regime.
    4. A willingness to work
    5. A tough, no-nonsense guy who is willing to cut the bullshit and get to fucking work.
    6. He gets around. It worked for Clinton.
    7. See answer number five.
    8. Who do ya need me to whack.
    9. Hillary sucks ass.
    10. Who gives a flying fuck what the commie suckass bastards think.
    11. Stopping the spread of left wing commie bitches.

Evyl, you really have to stop being so darn shy. 😉
Good points all. I do like Rudy, I really do – but he’s a little too middle of the road for me. Your argument in his behalf though was very compelling.
