Have You Painted Your Cat Lately?

Apparently, people still are finding ways to waste their money. A new trend appears to be having your cat painted for about 15 grand a pop. And if you want to keep up with the Jones’ you have to do repaints every three months. Can you imagine having nothing better to do with 60 grand a year than to have your housepet painted? Duh!

That being said, they are pretty impressive paint jobs.

(HT to FC for the pics!)

  1. The cats with the moon and stars are my absolute favorites.
    These pics are pretty amazing.
But at 15K a pop? Yoiks!
    Haven’t been around much…sniffle. I’m sick.

Those were my favs too – no surprise I guess. I thought they were just photo-shopped at first – must be some very special paint for 15K a pop, eh?

PS: Brandy in hot tea is good for the sniffles – especially if you have a comfy chair nearby. πŸ˜‰

  2. Gee thanks so much WC, woudn’t ya know it? I got a spare 60k just kicking round the bedroom and wondered what the hell I was gonna do with it. And to think I very nearly decided to help feed the homeless or something with it. Now I won’t waste my money on such a frivolous thing!
    Kelly…

Hey Kel, you can always rely on me to steer you in the right direction. No thanks needed. LMFAO! πŸ˜†

  5. Wow! Damn Cool!! Moon and stars was my fave too! (Although, ya gotta love the koi cat stalking the koi in the pond πŸ˜‰ )

I don’t have a problem with the price tag. There are other works of art that are just as temporary and just as pricey, if not more on both fronts. (Wedding cakes for one). What artists come up with constantly amazes me. I love it! Thank God for the people that can keep them in business!

And, yes, the money spent could probably feed a third world country. But I honestly don’t think third world countries are starving because someone decided to paint their cat instead.

    Aaak…. must….. not…. get…. on…. soap box….. will… never… get… off…. computer…..

Hey, no worries here – get on your soap box any time you want. LOL – if you get out of hand I’ll whip you into shape. πŸ˜‰

Good point on the art angle. It is art – why not have it on your cat? My question is how the heck they get the cats to cooperate. That’s one I’d really like to know.

  6. My first Lab had a tattoo, just for ID purposes
that was before the days of the microchip.

So it wasn’t like a naked springer spaniel on his biccep or anything like that then?

  7. Oh dear. That’s just beyond me. I think people with money have a totally different concept than people that don’t have money. I read about some of the things they do and I just think it’s crazy!

Yeah, I think you’re onto something there. Like my mother grew up on a farm and she had a totally different attitudes about pets than most parents. To her, they were livestock. Where most folks think of them as pets. Must be similar to people with money – when 15K is chump change then i guess you have more than you know what to do with.

  8. Wow. That is all I have to say.

I know! You should have seen the pics I didn’t post. I had about 15 of them but just couldn’t post them all. I mean who thought one day ‘hey, I should paint that cat.”? πŸ˜‰

  10. Blink…blink blink…

My cat would be the talk of the neighborhood. All the other cats would call him a “kept cat” and not let him tom around with them anymore. Which might be good. But not for 15grand.

Yeah but he might meet a better class of cat. It’s something to think about. πŸ˜‰

  11. I’ve seen these pictures somewhere before, but had no idea of the context. I thought people where just having fun embarrassing there cats.

I don’t have time to embarrass my cat. And I don’t think my wife would appreciate the humor in it. But I, personally think there should be a national “Embarrass Your Cat” day.

Think of all the pics on flickr. Think of all the videos on YouTube.

All in all a much better use of energy than Valentines day if you ask me.

I like the idea very much. But maybe we could expand it to ’embarrass your pet’ day. That way companies could sell bad clothing, camera equipment, video equipment and other really expensive stuff that people would need to celebrate it. Cool man!

BTW, still can’t get access to your blog. It hates me. What can I say?

  12. omg people are so stupid!! i seen on high maintenance 90210 where someone had their poodles painted bright pink and bright blue. those poor animals…

I suppose the good news is that the poodles don’t know they are painted blue and pink and even if they do they probably don’t know that they should be embarrassed. They probably only know that they got some extra attention – which only made them pee a few extra times on the floor, right? LOL. πŸ˜‰

  13. I don’t understand why anyone would feel the need to paint their pet. I understand spending ten bucks for a box of hair dye, but fifteen grand to have your pussycat look like works at the circus? Weird.

    ~Kelsey

Many rich people are weird. So I guess it fits the profile, eh? πŸ˜†

  14. My brother gave me the book of painted cats for Christmas. Its so cool. Beautiful. Inspiring. I’d paint your cat for a lot less… say $5000. a pop? MUCH more reasonable! πŸ™‚

Cripes, my cat won’t let you pet her – let alone paint her. But 5K does sound reasonable in comparison. πŸ˜‰

  15. The art IS impressive, although I think putting Charlie Chaplan on the cat’s a**hole was in somewhat questionable taste. But 60G a year for this? Well, you know what they say. A fool and his money….are welcome everywhere. 8)

    –Smith

Apparently so. There is even a song to honor such folks, isn’t there? I can almost hear it now….;)
