Dear Editor

(Imagine my delight, when I discovered yesterday that the NY Times had some advice for Republican/conservative voters. Quotes from article in italics and block quoted. WC)

Dear NY Times Editor,
Thank you so much for taking the time out of your busy schedule to do an in-depth analysis on which Republican candidate is best suited to become the President of the United States and for whom I (we) should vote.

We have strong disagreements with all the Republicans running for president. The leading candidates have no plan for getting American troops out of Iraq. They are too wedded to discredited economic theories and unwilling even now to break with the legacy of President Bush. We disagree with them strongly on what makes a good Supreme Court justice.

Still, there is a choice to be made, and it is an easy one. Senator John McCain of Arizona is the only Republican who promises to end the George Bush style of governing from and on behalf of a small, angry fringe. With a record of working across the aisle to develop sound bipartisan legislation, he would offer a choice to a broader range of Americans than the rest of the Republican field.

Being the backward, bible-thumping, cousin-marrying, gun-toting, truck-driving, beer- drinking, country-music-listening, grade school-educated moron that I am, I truly appreciate your going through the pain of the selection process for me (us).

After all, there are only twenty four hours in the day and formulating vast right wing conspiracies take up a good portion of that, with precious little left for bible study and refining effective approaches to perpetrating hate crimes. So, as you can see, I don’t have the time to contemplate anything as inconsequential as who might lead the free world for the next four years.

To say that I am deeply touched by your concern for my political welfare doesn’t begin to describe my feelings about your ever-so-helpful article (endorsement) about/of Senator John McCain.

And what a candidate you have selected for me (us)! There is no Republican on Earth more like Hillary Clinton than Citizen McCain. His uncanny ability to co-opt liberal causes and betray his party and principles of same are unparallelled in the civilized world.

But Mr. McCain took a stand, just as he did in recognizing the threat of global warming early. He has been a staunch advocate of campaign finance reform, working with Senator Russ Feingold, among the most liberal of Democrats, on groundbreaking legislation, just as he worked with Senator Edward Kennedy on immigration reform.

Like Mrs. Clinton, Senator McCain has truly mastered the skill of talking out of both sides of his mouth whilst never moving his lips.

We have shuddered at Mr. McCain’s occasional, tactical pander to the right because he has demonstrated that he has the character to stand on principle. He was an early advocate for battling global warming and risked his presidential bid to uphold fundamental American values in the immigration debate. A genuine war hero among Republicans who proclaim their zeal to be commander in chief, Mr. McCain argues passionately that a country’s treatment of prisoners in the worst of times says a great deal about its character. …

Mr. McCain was one of the first prominent Republicans to point out how badly the war in Iraq was being managed. We wish he could now see as clearly past the temporary victories produced by Mr. Bush’s unsustainable escalation, which have not led to any change in Iraq’s murderous political calculus. At the least, he owes Americans a real idea of how he would win this war, which he says he can do.

For all I know, he is actually a marionette getting his jollies by having your hand up his ass. Which could explain that silly, goofy grin he often wears, as well as his Howdy Doody voice

You make a fine case for endorsing the Senator who never met a liberal cause he didn’t like and a very convincing argument to vote for him – And iff’in I was a Democrat, I certainly would.

Still, I do appreciate that a newspaper with the stature of The New York Times, would have my back in terms of my electorate health and I will check back later to see who you might be endorsing for the upcoming election of the local dogcatcher and the Hunkiest Garbage Man Contest.

It’s nice to know that a main stream publication can be fair and objective in its recommendations to one and all.

Sincerely,
Writer Chick – who apparently fell off the turnip truck yesterday.

  1. LOL. I get a slight kick out of your sarcasm but then it is kind of sad that you have to use it at all. I don’t know what to say when I see articles like this.

    Hey Teens,
Yeah, these guys crack me up. I mean, seriously, do they really think that any conservative would believe they had their best interest at heart? Jeez!

  2. Your talent as a writer really shows here WC.
Are there any conservative newspapers left?
It seems that the ones I have access to are all slanted to the left.
This was a freaking good post for exposing the Times & McCain for what
they stand for. American people? Not!:)

    Hey Ange,
Um…conservative papers? I hear the Orange County Register leans conservative, though I couldn’t personally vouch for it. So, probably not. Thanks for the kudos but it appears that you and I may be in the minority hear as far as McCain is concerned, unfortunately, I think he has snowed a lot of people into believing he is a champion of conservative causes and principles when nothing could be further from the truth. The media likes him because he is the most liberal of the candidates and he is always doing democrat things. And they love to yammer on and on about how he is surging in the polls, however, what they don’t tell you is that Romney (last time I heard) actually has more delegates committed to him. The thing about McCain which I think is the most scary is that he is an awful lot like the Hildebeast – both have foul temperments, crave power, feel entititled and are know-bests and as McCain has been recently quoted they are such close friends. Nice, eh?

  3. Now wait a minute I thought I was the ‘backwards, bible-thumping, cousin-marrying, gun-toting, truck-driving, beer- drinking, country-music-listening, grade school-educated moron’… πŸ™‚ Ha Ha.

I know, let’s start an idiot club. I got a cousin who can wear overalls, play the banjo and pick his teeth at the same time. He can be President. LMAO. I’m kidding. Sorta.

I love coming over here and catching up. Been missing ya.

Sure, we can start an idiot club – sounds like fun, especially the banjo playing part. πŸ˜‰

  4. I don’t get it. If you want to vote for a conservative there is a really bright one with the initials RP who would love to have you. He’s going for the gold!

Well Windy, if you mean who I think you mean, I’d have to pass – for several reasons. First of all, even if by some grace of God, he became the candidate, he could never win the election – his numbers just don’t bear that out. Second, while many of his domestic policies make sense, his foreign policies are naive at best and lethal at worst. Third, and most importantly, he could actually become the Ross Perot of this election cycle – you may not remember him but he is the guy who enabled Bill Clinton to get elected by splitting the conservative vote. How ironic that there is another Clinton in this election cycle likely hoping for the same good luck. So, in my mind, if you want Hillary to win, then definitely pull the lever for RP – it’ll be a slam dunk.

And some of you may be asking why I’m so sure it’s going to be Hillary and not Barack – well, call me cynical but I truly believe that no matter who goes up against Hillary within the Democrat party, they will lose. The Clintons are calling in all their favors and there are many, they are entrenched and connected and they have no compunction about doing anything in order to win. If Barack Obama manages to overcome her, then I will have a new respect for the man, but honestly, I just don’t think he can.

  5. Miss WC, I respectfully diagree. I believe Obama will be the Democrat of choice.

And dear Lord if I have to live with a minimum of 4 more years listening to Bill talk about how wonderful he is (anyone see his “Hilary” speech last night? *gag*) I’ll surely upchuck ever time he’s on TV.

And thank you for confirming what I was just thinking today…..Senator McCain is a great pick for a democrat like me (I didn’t catch that tidbit the first time around). I just watched him at a town hall meeting and I have this very bad habit of “the last one who talks wins” theory when it comes to politiicans. *sigh*

Could ya throw in a little Ron White on the next round? tee hee

    Hey Free,
It really doesn’t matter a whole lot for me – but my opinion is based on the Clinton’s seeming ability to get whatever they want. Perhaps you’re right – still, I think she will somehow (and I don’t necessarily mean legally or ethically) pull it off. You have to admit nobody but nobody wants it the way she does. πŸ˜‰

LOL – I know, 4 more years of any Clinton does seem to be too much, huh?

Yes, Senator McCain would be a fine Democrat candidate indeed. πŸ˜‰ (Ron White? I don’t know who he is.)

I’m sure I heard Hilary say something but I wasn’t sure what. bwahahahahahaa

Yeah, I heard about that – I’m not sure that’s a good thing for Obama, Kennedy is such a putz. Too, Kennedy hates Hillary and would never have endorsed her anyway, so I’m not surprised.

LOL – thanks. I have a feeling Citizen McCain is going to be disappointed once again. He is like the Al Gore of the Republican party. Sad, really. πŸ˜‰
