The Weather Outside…

It’s official, I live on the East Coast. Yesterday after we dragged ourselves home from another endless day of packing and dragging and moving a little chill crawled into the air. “Nippy,” I thought and went on about my business. Then the next thing I knew I was being asked for my car keys so the car could be moved under the carport, lest the snow get all piled up on it, don’t you know?

Snow? Wait a minute. Now what happened to that thing you said, “It doesn’t really get all that cold here (thanks to global warming) …maybe some rain…” Uh-huh, I thought, duped again. As you can well imagine, having come from southern California my idea of warm clothes would include a somewhat heavy cardigan sweater, a parka and scarf – oh yeah, I brought a couple pair of gloves too. Suddenly I’m thinking about hats and boots and corduroy – possibly even velvet. Yikes, me in velvet, perish the thought.

The fact that it has been literally decades since I have lived in snow country (albeit much worse than this) and in all honesty have never driven in snow (except for that stupid drivers ed. course in high school which is but a dull memory now) does kind of diminish my enthusiasm for the sparkly white stuff a bit. I have visions of slip-sliding all over the road or driving so slow that the already impatient drivers in this town will be laying on their horns non-stop as I toddle my way down the avenue.

On the other hand, it is rather pretty to see everything kind of frosted and sparkly with snow and does remind me of childhood and certainly seems more Christmas-y than 80 degrees and flip flops – so it’s a mixed bag I guess. I was hoping I’d get the rest of my bulbs in before it snowed but the weather man says it won’t last so maybe I’ll luck out and will be able to get those puppies in next week before some bizarre blizzard or something hits us here in pretty town, usa.

Hopefully there won’t be anymore today though – we are back on moving duty, which thus far is endless. I wonder if we will ever get to the bottom of all the stuff in the old apartment. I’m not exactly the moving brute type and my wrists and ankles feel like they are going to just snap sometimes – oh well, what we do for love.

Have a nice Sunday, guys.

  1. Have fun playing in the snow.

LOL – fun? Right now, I’m just trying to figure out how not to freeze my bageebers off. I guess the fun comes later, eh? 😉

  2. Where the heck did you move on my coast? I live right down on the middle of the east coast of North Carolina and it seldom snows. This year for the first time in my life we had snow showers BEFORE Thanksgiving. But, we rarely get snow. When we do get it it’s between January and the end of March. But it is cold here early this year. It was in the twenties this morning and it rained last night before midnight, so what rain didn’t evaporate froze. I almost slipped on my deck when I went out this morning.

Anyway, welcome to the east coast!

    Hey Jim,
LOL – now you sound like him. Seldom snows but yeah it snowed. Cold early in the year and so on. You have to realize I’m from So. California for all intents and purposes, though I grew up in Michigan, my entire adulthood has been spent in warm climates. I will adjust, which is the beauty of the human animal I think.

I hear you on the slippery deck – same here. Gotta watch that stuff, eh? 😉

  3. I love snow. How great you captured the moments!

    Hey Girl!
Well, I haven’t loved it for a long time, but I’m working on it. I did though have to run outside when it started and take pictures and even though I was freezing I was giggling too. Go figure. 😉

  4. Oh – those pics are pretty, catching the snowflakes like tiny Christmas lights. Is that your new back yard, Annie? It’s gorgeous with that tree with red on it in the first pic. The second looks like you don’t need an indoor tree – that outside one is huge! 🙂 Ah, you will get there Annie and it will all have been worth it.

    Hey Teens,
Yes in fact that is the yard but it is the sideyard I guess, not the back. The tree with the red is a holly tree – we have three or four of them, one huge conifer, the type of pine I don’t know and a few elms I think for good measure.

Yes, I will get there and it definitely is worth it – just doing the quick step right now – know what I mean?

  5. Welcome to the land of snow squalls WC. Isn’t it fun

    Oh Jeez Ger,
I hope it’s not the land of the snow squall – that would be too much. Perhaps the land of the occasional snow faerie? Yes, that would be much better. 😉

  6. Never ever believe someone who lives in snow country when they tell you they don’t get much snow. ‘Much’ is a very relative term. Better go get your snow tires! *smile*

LOL Panther…you think? Much is such a relative term isn’t it? Although today it’s going to be 50 and tomorrow 60 – though both days will have rain – go figure. At least I’ll be able to get the rest of my bulbs in, eh? 😉

  8. Hope you got just enough snow to be pretty, not enough to be a headache.

Hey 30 – yeah it was kind of pretty – no, not a headache, except for the really cold part. Didn’t have to drive in it but if I had, it would have been nothing really to worry about. I have a feeling they don’t really get that kind of snow here – we’ll see I guess. 🙂

  9. I have to admit I am a snow lover. It snowed a little Sunday morning while my daughter and I were having coffee and we both marveled at the beauty and quietness of it. I honestly, pray for snow all the time. I don’t even mind driving in it.

I hope you get all unpacked soon. That’s not a fun job.

Hey Joanie, I agree, there is a certain beauty to snow that you can’t get with anything else. Just a little culture shock for me…coming from a place where 60 degrees is considered cold, you know?

We are unpacked, more or less, but we aren’t finished moving all the stuff from his old place over – that’s the tough part – nope, not a fun job at all. I think though we may actually get to the end of it soon. Here’s hoping. 😉

  10. It worked. It let me on with my own e-mail on my laptop that I am using now. Cool!!! Askimet may not recognize this computer.

    Hey Joanie,
I’m glad it worked but you should look into that – see if your ip did get spammed. If so, it needs to get handled. 🙂

  11. Snow would be perfect if it didn’t stick to sidewalks, cars, or roads.

LOL – then it would be faerie dust or something, wouldn’t it? 😉

  12. Really doesn’t get too bad. A few storms a winter, a few inches a storm. The schools rarely close! Really. I’m serious. Promise. (hee hee)

Promise…hee hee? Methinks you’re pulling my leg. Although I am beginning to see how it works I think. I figure if I don’t freeze or manage to lock myself out of the house this winter that I’ll be okay. 😉

  13. I know how you feel about the weather. I moved to the east coast 2 years ago after living in Hawaii my whole life (long story). It still amazes me to see snow even though I’ve spent a few winters here now. But my winter clothes didn’t even consist of a heavy cardigan or gloves! My first winter caught me very unprepared. Ha!

Hey Renee, welcome to my little dive here. It must have been quite the culture shock to go to the east coast from Hawaii. I’m sure you didn’t have gloves or sweaters when you got here either. That would have been a tough one for me.

  14. Now you know how my mind works. Eeeeshh! It’s a handicap I tell ya. If I write something and it turns out good, believe me something happened in my brain I can’t explain. (It doesn’t snow, but it snowed. . .) At least I think you smiled.

Yup, and I guess in a way all of our minds work that way, eh? Anyway, I gotcha. 😉
