I Want to Pay More Taxes? Seriously?

powell

Looks like our illustrious former Secretary of State is up to it again. In a speech made the other day he said:

“The Republican Party is in deep trouble,” Powell told corporate security executives at a conference in Washington sponsored by Fortify Software Inc. The party must realize that the country has changed, he said. “Americans do want to pay taxes for services,” he said. “Americans are looking for more government in their life, not less.”

So, not only do I want to pay taxes but I also want more government in my life? Like the fact that the government is but a hair from owning the auto industry, the banking industry, the mortgage industry and the healthcare industry isn’t enough for me – I want more? Are you kidding?

Mr Powell, I do in fact, have great admiration for your service to this country. You have given many years of your life in honorable service and I truly respect that. But somewhere down the line you fell off the proverbial turnip truck and that thunk on your head caused a serious personality disorder. You call yourself a Republican, which is supposed to mean you are a conservative of one sort or another. But I have to tell you my friend, you make John McCain look like a far right maniac in comparison. You endorsed Obamalama for president, dude. Obama, the guy who wants to completely socialize this country, wipe out capitalism and make us part of the European coalition. Are you getting this?

I have to say that I’m disappointed. That you would not only throw your party under the bus but the rest of the country as well, while you’re at it. I dare you to go up to any 20 people on the street at random and ask them if they want to pay more taxes. Ask them if they want more government in their lives. I dare you. You won’t get much agreement, believe me. Unless of course you do the survey at a liberal D.C. cocktail party, what the average American is going to tell you is that we are sick to death of government and politicians. That we are sick to death of bailing out the big dudes (read: large campaign contributors) instead of throwing their asses in jail. Sick to death of the special treatment for some and the shoddy treatment of most.

For cripes sake I can’t even go to my local DMV without it ruining my day. You think I want more of that crap on a larger scale and that I want to pay for it? Dude, what are you smoking?

Face it, Mr. Powell, you are no Republican and no conservative. You are an egotist who can’t stand being ignored – a man who has no clear view on anything, as changeable as the sea and willing to jump ship whenever the other ship looks better. What you stand for, I couldn’t say – clearly, you have mastered the ability to talk out of both sides of your mouth as you keep a straight face and there is no way to decypher what you are truly thinking and/or believing.

You want to know what Americans want? They want to be left the hell alone. They want their right to the pursuit of happiness without having to answer to some government bureaucrat and pay for some damn permit to barbecue on Saturday night. They want to go to the mall without being spied on. They want to go through the airport without having to take off their shoes or explain the amount of shampoo they are bringing with them, they want to be able to say hello and good bye at the gate. They want terrorists to be treated as such, not given amnesty and food stamps. They want companies who screw up to pay the piper, fix their mess or go the hell out of business. They want their doctors to decide on their course of treatment not Betsy in the government wellness department. They want to be able to create businesses and wealth without having to give 75% of it to you jokers. They want public servants to be public servants, not kings, queens and princes.

Personally, and I say this with all due respect, I really want you to shut the hell up.

  2. The reason he backed Obama IMHO is cause of his color not his beliefs. No the Goverment wants to run the college loans so that after graduation your work it off for the Goverment commrades.

    Hey Ger,
Well you may be right – but even if you are, it doesn’t change the fact that Powell has been back-stabbing the pubbies for years. I’m honestly not even sure why anyone listens to him anyway – he doesn’t actually seem to have a definite point of view about anything. Just changes with the political wind. What a putz. 😉

  3. Actually Chica the reason he is distancing himself from the GOP all goes back to the WMD thing and his statements at the time. Now he is doing damage control trying to distance himself from those days to protect his legacy

    Hey Ger,
I don’t know if I buy that because if you look at his track record, he has never really been a strong position kind of guy. He strikes me as the type who is overwhelmed by politics but also seduced by it – causing lots of conflict for him. He wants it but can’t master it. That right there explains him in a nutshell if you ask me.

  4. Hi Annie,

What Powell and the liberals forget, or choose to ignore, is that it isn’t up to our citizens to decide how much government we have in our lives. Well, at least not without going through the almost impossible task of amending the Constitution. Thus, what the majority wants should be irrelevant, which is why the Constitution was written the way it was. Since it’s looking more and more like the left is ignoring the agreement between citizen and government on purpose, it’s pretty easy to make the case that our Government is no longer legitimate, and I’m thinking the shooting will start sooner rather than later.

    Have a great weekend,

    Hey Grit,
I couldn’t agree with you more – I bought a special hat and everything for ‘shooting season’ which I think will be coming to a neighborhood near you pretty darn soon. Get the bunker ready, dude, we may all be heading your way. 😉

  5. This is from a Canadian who has watched with dismay the Neo-con takeover of the U.S.A. In the name of less government and low taxes those jackasses have let loose the reins on the market economy, leading to the credit crisis and now the worst oil spill in western history. A bit more government regulation might have helped there, don’t you think? Especially when it seems BP didn’t install a blowout protector because the rules no longer required it.

Dick Cheney gets my vote for the coyote-watching-the-henhouse award.

Up north here our federal government (Liberal) refused to allow the bank amalgamations which were the rage in the ’90’s on the grounds that they would lose control over the financial system. I hope the current Neo-con crew do as good a job on offshore drilling, though I fear they won’t, having blown $1.2 billion on a weekend conference.

First of all…did you even read this post? Your comments don’t seem to reflect that. I also don’t like it much when people from other countries seem to think they know more about my country’s politics, mores, traditions, solutions, ideas, and culture than Americans do – and they are simply trying to ‘educate’ us on our own country. Take my word for it, you don’t. But since you chose to rant on my blog let me just make a few comments of my own.

In case you haven’t noticed there are no neo-cons currently running America. Yup, the supposed messiah of the universe is now president. I’m sure he’d be quite upset if he thought you thought he was a neo-con. That aside, there is no place for anti-semitism on this blog.

In terms of the market economy – hmm, so many things, so little time…. the asset stripping of the American and other economies have more to do with international bankers, and kingmakers than policies of less government and lower taxes. Why not have a chat with some of your Brit, Chinese or Thai friends and ask them what they think of George Soros for example.

The oil spill happened while a British drilling company was in charge. One that has by and large donated campaign funds to democrats (read non-neocons). In fact, our current president received approximately $1,000,000 in campaign funds from BP Oil and its employees. And again, no conservative in charge when the oil spill happened and what I can only assume you believe are the exulted ones (the libs) who were in charge didn’t do squat and haven’t done squat since it happened. Lots of talk, lots of finger pointing, lots of blaming other people for being responsible – no action. Don’t believe me, why not peruse YouTube for some Bobby Jindle videos – the governer of Louisianna – one of the states that is being decimated by the spill. And I have to think that the only reason you are advocating for more government regulation as something that might have prevented the spill is because that way you get to blame George Bush for this. And while we’re on the topic of Bush – I’ll bet you were one of the cheerleaders criticizing him for Katrina too. Sure you were. However, that was a natural disaster – an act of God, if you will. Hard to make God stop things – or if you’re a pagan – then Mother Earth.

And how cute you managed to get in Cheney too – who has absolutely nothing to do with any of this.

Again, is it cold in your cave. The Socialist-Libbies are running things here and there is no current neo-con crew. You know, the people who never let a good crisis go to waste? The people who are hellbent on taking over every major industry in America, the people who want to decide what we should eat, drink, think, feel, do, drive, wear because we’re apparently too damn stupid to know what is good for us. More ‘education’ for our own good, eh? So if you want to talk about takeover, I think you have the parties mistaken and mixed up. You should review your American political science materials and get that straightened out.

And again, you are confused those in control of America in the 90’s were the socialist-libbies – how quickly you forget Bill Clinton and his merry band of men. Not surprizingly it was a democrat piece of legislature that forced banks to offer more ‘affordable’ housing to people who actually couldn’t afford homes get homes. Of course, that doesn’t align with your clearly biased view so let’s just pretend I didn’t bring that up.

So really, I’d suggest you read up on actual current affairs in America before you decide to make such definitive statements. I’m sure you won’t but if you want to know the truth you will. But as a Canadian who probably only has liberal rags and blogs to rely on for you information I guess I shouldn’t hold your ignorance against you.
