Shameless Self-Promotion

woo-hoo

Those of you who know me or have been reading this blog for any length of time, know that I have dreams – some of them, pretty big. Chief among them is publication. Well, guess what? I just got published. Yup. Me. Writer Chick. And they said it couldn’t be done. Believe me, I have the rejection letters to prove it.

As many of you know, I’ve spent the better part of the last couple of years looking for an agent and a publisher and finally decided to shelf it. I hadn’t given up but I thought that if I put it aside for a while that a newer, better idea would come to me about how to approach this wiley animal known as publication. Quite unexpectedly I saw a posting on a writer’s forum I sometimes visit and out of curiosity, clicked the link.

Wow, who knew there was an online publisher with such a cool website and such obvious respect for writers? Not I.

I spent quite a bit of time at the site and decided I wanted to submit my novel, False Witness. I had nothing to lose and really everything to gain. Naturally, I had to do things to prepare it, write bios and reformat – all the fun stuff. Then of course there was also that little voice of mine that kept telling me to forget about it. I decided not to listen and clicked the submission button.

To my delight and surprise False Witness was accepted for publication and is now available. Cue horns, noisemakers, fireworks and Bethoven’s Fifth. I can not express the feeling that overtook me when I read that email, I’m not sure I’ve ever felt that exact emotion, whatever it was or is – maybe I’d call writer’s joy. I think I started laughing and then crying and then I just couldn’t stop giggling. I felt like a writer damn it! And it felt good.

So, okay, what are you waiting for, click the link and check it out. If it looks good get yourself one. If not – hey at least you looked at it, right? But if you do get one, just remember this, you will be directly responsible for providing writing supplies to one happy writer.

  1. Awesome!!! I’m thrilled for you!!! I have more than a few rejection slips myself but you hung in there and did it!! Congratulations!!

Thanks 30 – yeah I guess rejection is just part of a writer’s life. You know I’ve always considered you to be an excellent writer, so it’s hard to imagine you getting rejection slips. The buttheads. LOL.

  2. Congratulations! Good for you! I’m too much of a traditionalist still – I want me a classic printed book in my hands with my name on it… 😉

Thanks Alex! Nice to see you again. I know, I know, I’m the one who’s been out of touch…

I too like the classic book and hope to see this one in print as well. This particular publisher does not exclude me from picking up a print publisher as well. It’s really a win-win situation. Shoot me an email if you want to know any details.

    Good to see you.

  3. Paid for and added to my burgeoning e-book queue. (I think this is my tenth.)

The only real disadvantage, at the moment, is that I can’t keep it at bedside and go through it a couple of chapters per evening, but I console myself with the thought that it would have cost twice as much, or more, and they certainly wouldn’t pay the author twice as much, now would they?

    Hey Chaz!
Thank you so much for adding my story to list of enovels. I’m flattered and touched. I know it is a bit tough getting the pc onto the beside table, isn’t it? Though can’t you read ebooks on pdas and things like that? I’m afraid I’m a little behind on such things so forgive if it’s a dumb question. Thanks again!

  4. Congratulations, Annie! I’ve purchased a copy, but drew an error loading the download page, so have not received my copy yet. I’ve contacted ireadiwrite for resolution. Alas, good things come to those who wait, eh? 😉

    Again, congrats!

    Hey JOS!
Thank you! I’m so jazzed you guys want to read the book. I’m sorry about the download error – another friend of mine was having trouble purchasing a copy earlier – I’m hoping that got resolved for her as well as your issue getting resolved too. They are awfully nice at ireadiwrite, so I’m sure they will resolve it quickly. Thanks again, you’re a doll.

  6. There are mobile versions of e-books – your publisher has one, in fact – but I don’t have suitable hardware for it.

    Hey Chaz,
I think I just had a brain fart moment – I’ll betcha that’s what mobi is, huh? Duh, I better catch up if I hope to make it in the world of electronic publishing eh? 😉

    Hey Kathleen,
It is exciting – you try to downplay but really it is just making me giddy. Oh, I think you saw the little sidebar thing I did late the other night – I was thinking no one would notice it until the day of the post. And I guess that almost worked, eh? Thanks for checking out the book. Much appreciated.

  8. Hi, again, Annie,

Just wanted to follow-up and let everyone know ireadiwrite resolved the download issue and I now have a copy of your book. I certainly didn’t want folks to think it wasn’t safe to order; they were prompt and professional.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to reading it this weekend. More to come… 🙂

  9. Annie, you deserve all this adulation! Your book is good! This is the reason behind the creation of the store, to connect Writers with their and other Readers. eBooks are simply an evolution in the industry – it’s not an either/or situation, and they open up so much for both sides of the equation.

eBooks are a bit of a leap for many people, we know – but you watch, the trend can’t be ignored. I personally don’t have a kindle or sony reader – I use my iPhone – and Blackberry has an app for reading eBooks too. So yes, last night I feel asleep in bed reading our Writers with my little iPhone next to me…

Anyway, thanks to JOS for the update and looking forward to all those who support this great Writer…
    Michelle

    Hi Michelle!
Thanks for visiting the blog. Folks, this is my publisher, Michelle.

I think you’re right about the future of books – more and more people are going to be downloading them to their phones, ipods and blackberries. In fact I have a friend who only buys ebooks and downloads them to her laptop to read while she’s traveling. The other great advantage to electronic books is it keeps production costs lower, which enables publishers and authors to get more ‘reward’ for their hard work. And it saves trees too, right?

Thanks for everything Michelle – I hope this is just the beginning of a long and fruitful relationship.

    Annie 🙂

  12. Oh Annie this is the best news ever. What wonderful news and to tell you the truth, I’m not all that suprised, I kinda knew it would only be that small matter of time until ‘something happened’ you sure put the work in. Yay ! Totally excited. Not too sure what to do to buy it and read it etc etc but have faith that I will.

I’m thinking it must have been a real hard book to write a thriller court room drama type senario book – wouldn’t a romantic lovey story have been easier? I’m thinking it would for me if I had to write a book. The book is on my list of buys when I know what I’m doing. Will you try and just get it in a book though with a cover, I think that will be easier for me.
Big Love Annie ~ So proud of you. xx

    Hey Di,
Thanks honey. Well, it might have been easier to write a romance novel but I’m not sure that’s my style. It’s not too hard to buy the book, you just go to the site, click on it and follow the prompts. Email me if you need help. I’d be happy to have the book in print, but I’d need a print publisher for that – maybe sometime in the future, eh?
    Love
