While everyone is driving themselves mad trying to figure out what went wrong for conservatives on Tuesday night and coming up with one ridiculous theory after another, most people are missing a very vital detail. Although Mitt Romney came up about 3 million votes short (according to estimates of voter numbers) Mr. Obama lost 10 million voters that he had in his first election. Think about that, does that constitute any kind of mandate? Hell no, Harry Reid, it doesn’t. And what’s more it says that he lost constituents across the board. To have lost that many voters means to me that he will not be given the same blank check he got in his first term. In fact, all he got was more time to ‘fix things’ in the words of his supporters. He just didn’t have enough time to fix all the things that were wrong when he came into office the first time. That is all the voters are giving Mr. Obama – time to fix it. Not a longer leash to drag us further into the toilet and under the rule of the United Nations.
So while we’re all running around blaming ourselves for not being ethno-centric enough, or female friendly enough, or appealing to the iPhone generation enough and blathering on about multi-culturalism and diversity, we are missing the fact that the electorate ain’t to dang happy with Obama either.
It’s not our demographics, (too many old white men? Seriously, did you just say that?) or our views that are alienating people, it is us going soft on our own principles of Economic Freedom and Personal Liberties, and Equal Opportunity for all Americans. This ridiculous idea that surfaces every time we lose an election that says we have to become more like liberals if we want the party to survive is annoying as hell and I want you guys to all stop that. Because it just isn’t true.
And while we’re on the topic of squishy…this guy has to go. That Obama was reelected in no way establishes as a fact that the American people want Obamacare. As this poll shows among many other interesting things.
For my money this guy should be Speaker of the House and the fact that Boehner is so dismissive tells me he might be a little worried that that very thing might happen. Paul Ryan would certainly have my support if he decided to challenge the current speaker for the position.
Now we know all you guys up there on Capital Hill think that now the election is over you’re all just going to go back to slinging mud, go along to get along and profess to mandates that don’t exist and we, the little people, are just going to throw up our hands and let you – but you should think again. None of you has earned a mandate or bragging rights in this election and we all know that – so do you. Realize that you have awakened the sleeping giant that is the American people and you’ll be hearing from us on a pretty regular basis from here on out.

Of course I can only give an individual reaction. I don’t represent a group. But speaking as one, old-ish, white, married, religious man, it was mostly about the social issues for me. I didn’t see Romney as such a bad guy personally, but being on what I felt was the wrong side about health care, reproductive rights, marriage equality, immigration reform and pay equity was enough reason to vote against him. I also couldn’t understand how to pay for his tax cut without eliminating things like mortgage deductions, and he was reluctant to provide detail. It was a big unanswered question.
You’re quite right that Obama’s record has been, well to me, average. He’s made some terrible mistakes, and he’s helped some things. Because I believe he is trying, I was willing to give what I saw as a C+ student more time. The economy is flat, and I get less work than I used to, but I learned how to live on less in response, and I’m grateful for it. Because I changed my own living and spending habits as a result of the bad economy, I actually AM better off. I have less debt and less stress. I’m happier.
I enjoy the commitment you put into your articles, even when I disagree.

I have to say your avatar made me laugh.
I assume from your comments you are an indie voter – but I do appreciate your perspective. Though I am curious about the point regarding how he would ‘pay’ for the tax cut. For one thing, I believe his plan was easily found on the internet if you were interested in finding it and for another he did provide an explanation as much as possible in the two minute sound bites he was given. Also, Obama didn’t give us any plan at all.
I’m glad that you have managed to find a way to get by on less – I have too, yet that isn’t my goal to get by. I would like to be able to make a comfortable living, able to put away some money for retirement and maybe even if there was extra help out some family members.
My decision to support Mitt was because of his fiscal policies and vast experience in business and as a job creator – because really if we go belly up, the other details are not going to matter – you can’t support the social programs by borrowing from China or taxing people to death. It just doesn’t work. And I fear Obama will get a much lower grade than C+ for his second term.
That being said, I do appreciate your thoughts and thanks for the acknowledgment regarding my commitment to my posts.

I think Rush said it best: “You can’t beat Santa Clause” And I don’t think conservatives/Republicans should contort themselves into some version of Santa in an effort to buy their way into the white house.
Our message is better – we just need to better convey it.

You’re right Santa-Bama is the best president ever, huh? I wonder how many of those folks who voted for him work for the hundreds of companies that announced today that they will be doing massive layoffs. I have a family member who voted for him and she works in a restaurant, which probably means her hours will be cut to under 30 hours, so her employer can avoid paying for health insurance. Plus all the layoffs will probably mean not too many people will be going out to eat as much, or not at all. Although she believes that the fiscal cliff doesn’t even exist… Sadly, there are millions just like her out there – who believe in their beloved bama. Even those damn stupid union thugs don’t get the fact that although they might have jobs, nobody is going to be able to buy their stupid cars because they’ll all be on welfare and unemployment. So, how long are those jobs going to last? I’m preparing because I know what’s coming. Sadly the very people who contributed to ‘forwarding’ this man’s agenda by voting him in for a 2nd term are not going to be prepared at all. Although in some odd way it seems poetically just.
