Bone Tired

Ever hear the term? The first time I did was from my friend Vicky who explained it to be an exhaustion so utterly deep that it went right on down to the bones. Okay, so if you looked that up in the dictionary you would see my dragging ass pictured there. I. Am. Bone. Tired.

I have had many long and romantic dances with insomnia in my life and after a while had come to accept that there would always be periods in my life where I simply couldn’t sleep. No matter how many vitamins I took, potions I drank or exercise I did. No tips or tricks have ever had any lasting workability and I think I’ve tried them all. Even booze, an old favorite isn’t a good one for me because it makes me so dizzy that that keeps me awake.

But I have to say of all the insomnias I’ve had, this week quite possibly gets the prize. Between the shit that is flying here and there, I’ve also had some particularly intense and great conversations with friends, a creative jag that has had me scribbling over anything that could even remotely considered a writing surface and then there was a massive canibal incident in the frog swamp that got me going.

I know you folks haven’t seen much of me around – and for that I am sorry. I keep meaning to get by – wanting to read and inter-relate but by the time I get to it, my eyeballs are bleeding and my head is stuffed with mental cotton candy. I’m hoping tonight is the night I actually get some sleep. That I’m not wondering around the house again at 3a.m. just like a zombie out for their nightly bloodfest.

Cuz, let’s face it, things do seem better when you can actually comprehend the world around you.

Anyway, like the saying goes…’if you see something dragging, don’t step on it, cuz that’s my ass.’

  1. Annie! I wish this post wasn’t so funny so I could have my concerned friend voice happening, but damn woman, you’re funny!
Puh-LEASE tell us about the frog canibal incident!!
Well my dear, I do sincerely hope you get a good night’s sleep tonight. My fingers are crossed for you.
    Much love x

No worries, dear girl, I laugh at myself all the time, no reason you shouldn’t too. The frog cannibal incident may be too icky to tell in a post. Perhaps I’ll whip you out an email with the gory details over the weekend. 😉

  2. I too am a little curious about the frog incident.
I actually have on my list of to do things today to call my doctor about my insomnia which I have had for the last 10 years or more. I would go right to sleep then wake up 2 hours later, be up for 2 or 3 hours then fall back asleep for a couple more. My doctor gave me valium about a year ago because at the same time I was going through my deep anxiety and depression over you know who. Now I want off the valium because it is so addicting. I have cut the dose in half slowly and am having trouble sleeping again. I am going to continue cutting the dose and get off it. I don’t know what I’ll do next but my daughter insisted I call my doctor and she will harass me until I do.

I tried all the natural remedies I could come up with and nothing worked.

    Not sleeping sucks.

I never take naps during the day even though I get tired thinking I will sleep better If I don’t.

I don’t know what the answer is. I wish I did. I don’t want to take any more drugs. I suppose not sleeping can be stress induced. If you come up with any miracle cure let me know.

    Hey Joanie,
I understand your concern – those meds can be very habit forming. I’m going to email you some info that might be of interest to you – probably tonight. Take care.

    Hugs,

  3. Oh, poor frogs!!

As for your sleeping … ready now … look deep into my eyes … “You are getting sleepy” … “You. are. getting. sleeeepy” … “You … are … zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Oh 30, if only that would work, how lovely that would be. Unless you mean that my blog should be putting me to sleep…and even so, you may have a point. 😆

  4. I am totally with Simonne on this one. I was trying to concentrate on sending all my sympathetic energies your way, you poor thing, but then the whole cannibal frog thing took over. I mean, who can concentrate on sympathy when one is envisioning all sorts of horrors in a frog swamp. Did a big massive bullfrog mistake his little bros for lunch fixings? Or is it not about the frogs at all, but some whacked out Grade B horror movie re-enactment going on right in your very own backyard!

    Gawd, I’ll never sleep tonight!!!!

    Hey Panther,
I may be a combination of both. Oh poor future froggies simply didn’t have a chance. What a debacle. Maybe I need to do a garden newsletter to those concerned. And laughing is good, especially when things seem so unlaughable, eh? 😉

  5. That’s funny! We call that “dog-ass tired” around here! 🙂

I know what you mean about the creative juices. Some days that happens to me and I can’t stop writing–Then other days I stare at my computer screen blankly for hours.

I don’t get it–Why can’t a little inspiration come like say, between the hours of 9 and 11 pm every night.

Life would be so much simpler that way! 🙂

    Hey Ramblin’
Yup – we be dog ass tired ‘n’ shit. 😉 I agree with you about the nightly inspiration – how cool and fricking groovy would that be? Then I wouldn’t have to act the strange pannicked baglady looking for a napkin to write on when in the grocery store that scares young children and such. 😆

I loved the way you described insominia there. I’ve learnt to love my insominia and make it work for me. I don’t have trouble dropping off to sleep, it’s the staying asleeep for me.

I write as the sunrise’s and I quite like that outlet that I have developed. To write as the day breaks is amazing.

I’m picturing you dancing with the frogs, having great intense converation’s with them, then taking great delight from your new experience of watching them eat each other. Something like that.

I did actaully leave you a comment after Simmones first one. I wonder where It went to.I told you that I didn’t want you to sleep soundly for to long as I feel us insominia’s have a great passion inside. We just have to manage it a bit. I find siesta’s work for me and are a real treat.I actualy can’t get a job for that reason. How on earth would I have my siesta. Hehe!! ( Kidding )

‘Your a sound lass’. A Lancashire saying for. ‘Your a good woman’.

    Di X

OH Di, I love your scenario with the dancing frogs and conversations. That could indeed be a future post. Writing as the sun breaks sound very lovely and ever so F. Scott Fitzgerald, eh?

I’m sorry, I don’t know where you comment got to. Nothing in the spam or anywhere else. Pehaps one of the cannibalistic tadpoles munched on it as an appetiser? I know sometimes my blog throws comments in spam even though they are known and loyal readers, though not this time.

I love that saying, ‘you’re a sound lass’ very nice. Thank you, dear.

  7. Hi WC,

I had something like that hit me once. I stayed up for 3 days, and after the first one all I could do was think about trying to get some sleep and shake. Definitely not a good time. I almost lost my job over it too, but my boss at the time was, for some unknown reason, afraid of me 😉

    the Grit

    Hey Grit!
A boss afraid of you? I don’t believe it. 😆 I was hitting toward day three myself but managed to get some almost decent sleep last nite. If tonight fares about the same, my knees should stop with the sense of rubber and the wobbliness should be gone. It seems so unfair to be walking around with a hangover when I never even took a nip. 🙂

  8. As a fellow insomniac, I feel your pain. Sometimes I can go to sleep OK and then wake up for hours, other times I just can’t get to sleep. It was a lot worse during both pregnancies. Bad enough that for the last month or so of both, I slept on the floor in the lounge room so that I could fall asleep watching TV and not wake hubby up with all the tossing and turning. Not the most comfortable sleep when 8 months pregnant, let me tell you.

I have suffered on and off since I was a teenager and Dr’s haven’t given me any sleeping pills due to the addiction risk. Valium and I don’t get on so that’s not an option either. So I take antihistamines when things get really bad and that seems to work.

I hope that you got some sleep last night. And here’s to the French frogs you’ve got there. French you ask???? Well, cause they eat frogs legs LOL

Oh Gem, that must have been really tough, going through that when you were pregnant. There are so many other attendent uncomfortable-alities during pregnancy that throwing insomnia into the mix seems downright cruel.

I heard just last night that antihystamines were good sleep aids – benadryl to be exact and I’d never heard of that before. I may have to go stock up cuz sleep deprivation is just the pits.

Yes, tiny little frog legs hopping about screaming au revoir! LOL.

Yup, bone weary does sound more tired. I think I may have put everyone to sleep. 😉

  10. If I didn’t have insomnia, I wouldn’t have time to blog. I miss sleeping so much. I haven’t had a good 1/2 night sleep since before I was married. Now, I’m up until 3 am easy and at work by 8 am. Sorry you are so tired!

Well, I take my hat off to you, Girl, cuz I don’t know how you do it. I have another friend who doesn’t sleep much and blogs her brains out – it’s amazing really.

I’ve had two nights now with some halfway decent sleep – so maybe the trend is turning? I hope so.

  11. Can I be bone tired with you, and take a nap beside you? I promise not to snore too loud, and Im not a cover hog .. not at all!

Sure, jump in. As long as you don’t mind sharing with a dog and a cat and a tosser/turner. 😉

  12. I feel bad for giggling at your post, since it is at the expense of your exhaustion.

I do want to hear about the cannibal frogs. It sounds too interesting not to write about.

Here is to a good night’s sleep and an end to feeling bone-tired.

    Don’t feel bad, Mrs. V,
I laugh at myself all the time – it’s what gets me through the day sometimes. The cannibal frogs, oy, I may have to send a private post around about that one. 😉

  13. Sorry honey, that just sucks. 😦
I’m more like the girl in the photo though, I can fall asleep anywhere, at the drop of a hat. It just pisses the old man off. I hate when we go to visit his family…I have fallen asleep while having a conversation with them. Talk about embarrassing. Any how…I hope you get out of the current insomnia funk.

Cowgal, that is a hoot. I can just see you snoring in your in-laws faces. That would be one heck of a kodaky moment. I’m sleeping a bit better now, hoping the trend continues.

  14. Hi WC,

As to the scared boss, I made a point at lunch one day of mentioning my recurring dreams of coming to work with a gun and shooting everyone I had a grievance with. I went into great detail about how realist the spurting blood and the screams were in my dreams, and how relaxed I felt the morning after having them. I can’t believe he took me seriously 🙂

    the Grit

I don’t know, Grit, given all the crap that goes on and what you hear on the nightly news, maybe he was just exercising caution? 😉

  15. I have this same problem (going on right now) and I fight it every single time.

Just last night I decided to stop fighting it. It helped a little. I dunno, I give up. LOL!

I know! Sometimes there is nothing left to do but throw up your hands, make some popcorn and decide what infomercial you’re going to watch, eh?
