But Baby it’s Cold Outside

Well, once again the Incovenient Doof has gotten it wrong. Yep, Global Warming is simply not cooperating with the bloviating one and things are a little different than predicted by the moonbats. Apparently, 2007 wasn’t the warmest year on record, nor did it far surpass the dreaded 1998 in temps and death and destruction.

Oh and all those hurricanes that were going to devastate the earth didn’t come either. We still aren’t living on a vast dessert wasteland and look at that, life is going on as usual. Marauding bands of homeless survivers are not prowling the neighborhood looking for water, supplies or anyone’s delectible teenaged daughter. Nor are cars developing personalities and holding people up at the local ATMs.

In a way, it’s sad because the newspapers then would have a lot of great headlines with which to frighten the bageebers out of us and sell newspapers at the same time, thereby saving their sorry asses for another day and keeping their rags in print.

Some scientists even have the nerve to think that the sun actually has more power over the climate than cars. Can you imagine? The sun, a mere fireball in the sky, could have something to do with the climate? Heresy, I say.

In fact, it seems that we may be going toward a period of global cooling. Bummer, because I’m a sunshine gal and I hate being cold, but luckily I have plenty of heating oil and my car has a good heater too, so I guess I’ll manage.

The debate is not over, my friends, you can bet your Ug boots on that. And in fact, the debate will probably go on forever until man gets it through his head that he cannot control the planet nor its weather patterns. And realizes that we simply live here and while we should be good stewards of the place in which we live – we need to get over the arrogant of belief that we actually cause the weather. That’s all I’m saying.

  1. heehee – Inconvenient Doof, bloviating one, and moonbats, oh my! 😉

Oh darn, Teens, now I’m going to have that going through my head all night. 😆

  2. Gees woman, just after we actually found a topic we agreed on you needed to bring Global warming into the picture…… guess it was nice while it lasted 🙂 .

Haha, while reading your post I had my opinion on top of my throat, loaded with the new information I just got on the radio regarding this subject, when it hit me; I don’t have proof either. Yes I have gutt feelings (mother earth talks to me, you see, the trees etc 😉 ), yes I have so called scientific reports (no Al Gore isn’t one of them, I’m more a David Suzuki kinda gal) but then it does seem a little crazy to think we are in control of the planet. After all that’s what put us in the mess we are currently in…….

So I guess for today, I’ll remain loaded with differing opinions and keeping quiet for as long as I can hold it, which is probably just about done after the next full stop.

    LOL Spaz,
You’re free to say whatever you like, here, you know that. But yeah, I guess you got my point. You see, I don’t dispute that there is such a thing as global warming/climate change – I only dispute that man is the cause of a planet long condition – because my belief is that the climate will fluctuate for the entirety of the existence of the planet, regardless of whether or not man is here. Whether Al Gore makes propoganda films or whether or not the moonbats manage to take over and outlaw living in any sense of the word.

  3. Hi WC,

I’d leave a longer comment, but it’s unusually cold here today and if I don’t go throw some more wood on the fire my dogs are going to freeze!

    the Grit

Aw, poor doggies- no, you don’t want them to freeze. Git to it, son. 😉

I’m freezing, been in an ice storm from h*ll all week, no power, no internet, and I want some warmth!!!:) LOL!

Are you freaking kidding me? No power, no heat and NO INTERNET. Criminy, how have you managed to survive? 😯

  5. …however, common sense steers you (if you are prone to pondering-scuse the alliteration) to think that we cannot possibly be doing any good pumping shit into the atmosphere and depleting natural resources at the rate we’ve been, since the beginning of the 20th Century. Not to mention all this goddamned pro-creating. What’s with us propagating the race? Humans suck. I’m gonna have a t-shirt made with that slogan. Wanna buy it? I’ll have it manufactured in some sweat shop in Sri Lanka, in some nasty factory which spews garbage into the air.

    (S)wine,
Can you really believe that man has done no good for the planet? Every invention, every technology, every advance from agriculture to science has come about because of man and his ingenuity – the internet wasn’t invented by rabbits, you know. Animals do much to destroy the environment also, are you down on them too? How about insects? Locusts aren’t exactly environmentally friendly. What about all those ‘green’ products, those were also invented/discovered by man – not the beebop hooty owl of New Zealand – does man get any credit for that?

And, if so, then what is the solution – make ourselves extinct so that what….the Earth can live in peace all by its lonesome? I don’t see how that is a solution. In fact, every day, man is coming up with solutions to undo much of the ‘harm’ that you site. Does he get no credit from you? When I moved to L.A. the smog was terrible – well guess what, we don’t have smog anymore. Now…how did that happen?

And if you truly feel this way, then why on earth are you contributing to the problem? Do you have a car? Do you own appliances, a computer, a television, dvd player, lawnmower, tape recorder, buy food from a grocery store, smoke, use toilet paper? Or are you completely self-sufficient and take nothing from the environment? Make your own food, use nothing that requires metals, woods, oil, electricty? You see, it is this very thing that drives me crazy. People who rail against the very machine that they use when they’ve a mind to – and preach to others of their evil consumption.

The fact of the matter is there will always be consumption whether there are 10 people of 10 trillion people on the planet and if no people there will be animals and they will consume too – but then there is also the contribution that comes back. The man who tends his lawn, grows trees, grows some of his own food, water processing plants that recycle water, unleaded gas, catalytic converters, ad infinitum. To take the position that no one and no thing is taking any measures to undo some of the harm and that break throughs are happening every day on this front to me, is flawed. And I’m tired of the hypocrisy.

All this aside, you missed my point. And that is that we don’t control the weather – we never did and we never will unless one of us becomes God or something.

  6. Icouldn’t agree more, A.

Because we really have a clue what happened here in the age before science and record keeping.
And we have so much control over the earth. I mean, we can barely get our lives in order….do people really think they have that much power?

    Yeah, probably.

    Hey Jess,
I think a lot of this comes from arrogance. To take the view that we have caused all this weather is ridiculous. As you said, many people can barely manage their lives, yet somehow we control the weather? Absurd. I have nothing on taking measures to treat the environment with care – in fact, it would behooove us to do so – but geez, let’s put things in perspective. You know?

  7. i never excused myself from contributing. but my comment was tongue-in-cheek, so once again you mis-read me. however, there is no way i’m going to excuse industry from causing pollution. you gotta believe that SOMETHING has got to be fucked about pumping carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, hydrocarbons, and particulate matter (both solid and liquid) into our air. and for the record, i do think this planed would benefit more if the human race was extinct. and yes, i include myself in that extinction.

Of course I don’t think it’s good to pump chemicals into the air – I just don’t think it causes weather conditions. And as far as that goes, over the last twenty years, many advances have been made to lessen the impact of doing so. You got a problem with people pumping crap into the air then perhaps you should talk to China. Perhaps they should place the standards they wanted to place on the U.S. on themselves.

Got it on the extinction angle – we’ll have to agree to disagree there.

And just as a side note, I don’t really feel like getting into a long protracted debate here – so, let’s just leave it where it is, shall we? Right now, I don’t have the energy for it. Pun intended.

  8. Yep, I think there’s a lot of truth in that but whichever way we look at it, “good stewardship” still involves looking after our rivers, our atmosphere et al and that involves acting very differently to the way we act now.

    cheers

    BC

    Hey BC,
I’m not sure what you mean by very differently than we act now. In the U.S. we have very strict regulations on all things considered pollutants – we recycle, we use green products, we have catalytic converters, hybrid cars, Air Quality Assurance Agency, Environmental Protection Agency, etc. etc. There will always be people who are pigs and choose to ignore the garbage they contribute but by and large, most people do try. And in fact, have done so long before we were being forced to do it.

What I resent is the issue being made into a religion – it isn’t. Rather than guilting people into things, or forcing people into things, lest they are convinced they are criminals – it would be so much better if the public were presented with solutions to the problem – like anything else. Instead, we are preached at, condescended to and literally told lies – in order to scare us into complying. And I have to tell you, I don’t trust anyone who tries to frighten me into doing things – they have another agenda.

    Know what I mean?

  9. no long debate here. just a quick point though: your argument re: China is definitely valid. those boys seem to have free reign. it’s that whole “they got theirs, so i’m gonna get mine” mentality. it’s awful.

but you keep bringing up examples of regulations and restrictions that the U.S. has instituted. the thing is, we F-ed it up in the first place (we, meaning not just the U.S.). it’s sort of a weak argument to point out all the measures taken against polluters and industry, when we created it in the first place. it’s sort of like making war in order to achieve peace, then patting ourselves on the back for achieving it. very orwellian, very 1984-ish if you ask me. anyway, yea…energy definitely spent arguing here, but? it’s a healthy debate (excuse the pun).

    (S)wine,
Well, we do agree on something then – who knew? 😉

Okay, so we messed up in the first place – since we don’t have a time machine to jump into and go back and fix it then isn’t that a futile point? It does nothing to solve the problem. Know what I mean? It’s not as though it was an intentional act to pollute the environment, it was just a natural evolution of discovery, trial and error – just like anything else. And again, let me point out that man of all the creatures on the earth has the capacity, abilty and desire to right his wrongs, fix his mistakes and though those fixes may not come soon enough for you personally, you can’t deny that there is progress being made. And again, don’t misread me – I have been a long time conservationist – I do everything I can to try to care for my little corner of the planet and encourage others to do so. It’s the politicizing, rather than solving, of this issue that drives me nuts.

As to war…well, you won’t like this either – but the truth is, this is vicious universe – and if you want something beautiful to survive you must be willing to use force to protect it. I don’t like violence at all, but if someone is coming at me with a knife or a gun you better believe I will fight back. And if I knew ahead of time that that was their plan I would take proactive measures to stop them. Because I believe there are things worth fighting for and sometimes you have to – whether you like it or not – No, we are not the evolved beings we would all like to be – unfortunately, there are people in this world who don’t want to get along and play nice – that being the case – I’m not one to play possum.
