Wet Christmas

One of my favorite songs of all time is White Christmas – and I really love the movie too. But when this song was written, it was a kinder, gentler time. I wonder if Irving Berlin were around these days what he would have come up with. I thought I’d come up with my own updated version, and given all the global warming thing, I think Wet Christmas is probably more appropos. And just as a little side note, I dedicate this to my good buddy, Mikey. Especially the last line. WC

I’m dreaming of a wet Christmas
cuz it’s not cold enough for snow.
All the trees are listless
and kids assist us
to hear cell phones yelling ‘ho’

I’m dreaming of a wet Christmas
with every credit card I swipe.
Hope your days aren’t laden with hype
and may all your christmases not bite.

(repeat second verse after musical interlude)

  1. I particularly like the hype line, I am already on the brink of stringing myself up if I hear sleigh bells in ONE MORE supermarket advert!

    AARGH!

    Cheers

    LOL BC,
I know what you mean. It’s too bad really, because I love Christmas Carols. Too bad they beat us over the head with it in their dang commercials.

I love White Christmas too but I live in S. California – not much out here. Although it did snow last year for 15 minutes – we have pics to proove it. 😉

  3. Hi WC,

Not counting the two years we lived in Canada, I can remember exactly three years in my Southern life that had a White Christmas. One of them was from a minor dusting of snow that really didn’t have an impact on life. One was from a major ice storm that prevented my wife, son and I from traveling to the family gathering, and was, to date, the best Xmas ever in my opinion. The other was when I was very young, and all I recall is watching the snow fall out the window until my Mother made me go to bed with the threat that Santa wouldn’t come unless I was unconscious. Thus, on balance the White Christmas thing has been a positive and, if I ever get filthy rich, I’ll have the grounds sprayed with artificial snow on Xmas Eve.

    Hey Grit!
Merry Christmas my friend. Yes, painting the lawn white works for me. Roomie wants to have a Christmas bbq, can you believe it?

  5. I love parodies! What a great job you did with your version of the song! I’m going to be singing your version if our christmas is not white this year. 🙂

    LOL Teeni,
That’s the trouble with parodies – you can’t get them out of your head. 😉

  6. Oh, I do like this.
Very interesting concept you’ve cooked up here.
We watch White Christmas every Thanksgiving after we eat. The girls know (and sing) every song and we all laugh our asses off. We’ve actually gotten to the point where we’re adding our own dialogue. As the years slip by, the dialogue gets more risque.
    Kind of funny.
Thanks so much for the dedication. It never made it to my blog stats. Go figger . . .

(and may your Christmas not bite!)

Oh, that’s so funny – my sister and I love to sing the ‘sisters’ number. And you’re right, you just can’t get through it without laughing your butt off. Love that movie, especially at the end when they start singing, ‘We’ll follow the old man…’

And oh yeah, may your Christmas not bite too. 😆

  7. Annie, you are just a cool chick. Talented to boot!

I hope we have a White Christmas in Ky. Ya just never know. It sure makes it feel like Christmas in my head at least..:)

I know what you mean. When I was a kid, I always believed if it snowed on Christmas Eve that it would be a magical Christmas. Nature’s diamond dust, you know?
