Power posing, body language what it tells us about ourselves

Over the weekend, I stumbled upon this TED talk by Social psychologist Amy Cuddy. She discusses how body language affects how others see us, which I thought was interesting.

But the truly relatable material for me was when she touched on how our body language affects how we see ourselves. In particular, when she relates her own personal story of feeling that she didn’t belong or deserve to be in an academic program I was touched to the point of tears.

I think we can all relate to that feeling of not belonging or deserving an opportunity and I’d urge anyone who has felt so, to watch the talk. You’ll be glad you did.

Meanwhile, I’m gearing up for NaNo!

Have a great week!

  1. Interesting, Annie. I read a lot about body language, as I believe it is something every writer should understand and incorporate in his/her work. Good luck with your NaNo endeavor!

    1. I thought this was a much deeper and more interesting view on body language. Obviously, a writer needs to be able to observe body language in order to communicate appropriately what her characters are doing – but I really dug the psychology angle in this video.

Thanks, I think NaNo will be fun this year because I have a plan this time out. 😀

      1. I admire fantasy writers, with all that world building and such. I certainly can’t do that. I write mysteries. My first day was funny. I got up super early because of the time change and stumbled through about 1500 words. Then later I tapped out a few more. Then later, I wrote a few notes and the next thing I knew I was writing so fast I was getting finger cramps. Ended with about 4500 words. Big shock for me. But since I work through the week, maybe it’s good because I probably won’t get in that kind of production outside of the weekends.

888? Cool, maybe there’s secret message in those numbers. 😀

Feel free to message me and say hi. 😀

      2. WOW! That’s a big number! What a great start. 🙂 I wish there were a secret message behind my word count, like it being a good luck charm or something. Lol. Yes surely, I hope you won’t mind if I do message you. I was hoping to get in touch with participating writers especially from the blog-o-sphere, you know, for an added boost and encouragement to our already fighting spirits. Heheheh.

      3. LOL. Yeah, now the trick is to keep the pace. Although, it’s book 2 of a series so a lot of the prelim stuff is out of the way. I don’t know, maybe you could integrate that 888 into your story – a secret message or code? Could be fun.

Absolutely, we can be in touch. Send me a message and I’ll put you on my buddy list. And we can hold hands and encourage each other thru the dark times. 😀 And I’m always happy to be a sounding board. See you there. 😀
